What We Believe

We Believe The Bible

In short, we believe the Bible. We want to believe what faithful Christians believed in the Bible, and we want to do what faithful Christians did in the Bible. The Bible is our creed and our statement of faith. However, for your benefit, we have outlined several key doctrines below we understand to be taught by the Bible.

We believe that every word of the Bible is inspired by God; that God’s word is inerrant, infallible and without contradiction in the original manuscripts. The 66 books that comprise the Old and New Testaments have been faithfully preserved throughout history as God’s complete revelation to mankind, and are our final authority in faith and life. For that reason, everything we believe, teach, and do must have Bible authority.

2 Timothy 3:162 Peter 1:20Mark 13:31John 8:31,32John 20:31Acts 20:322 John 1:9

We believe that there ever has been, and ever will be, only one true and living God who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Word (the Son, Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit. These three are equal in every divine perfection, infinite, without beginning or ending, unchanging, and possessing all power, knowledge, and glory. They execute distinct but harmonious roles in the work of creation, providence, and redemption.

Genesis 1:1,26John 1:1,3Matthew 28:19John 4:24Romans 1:19-20Ephesians 4:5-6

We believe in God the Father; an infinite, personal spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He infallibly foreknows all that shall come to pass, that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through obedience in Jesus Christ. As Creator of life, He is Father to all men; but He is spiritual Father only to His saints.

Luke 10:21-22Matthew 23:9John 3:166:27Romans 1:78:14-161 Timothy 1:1,21 Peter 1:3Revelation 1:6

We believe in Jesus Christ; God’s only Son. We affirm the full divinity and the full humanity of Jesus. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, and ascension into heaven. He is the one and only mediator between God and man, perpetually interceding for His people, and will one day return.

Matthew 1:18-25Luke 1:26-38John 1:120:28Romans 9:58:322 Corinthians 5:211 Peter 2:21-23John 20:30-31Matthew 20:28Ephesians 1:4Acts 1:11Romans 5:6-86:9-10; ; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18Hebrews 1:17:259:281 Timothy 3:16Jude 1:5

We believe in the Holy Spirit who has been sent from the Father and Son to convict the world concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment. The words that the Spirit communicated from Jesus give life. For this reason, we believe Scripture is not only of supernatural origin, but Scripture has supernatural power. The Holy Spirit does not give men and women miraculous abilities today like He once did, nor is there any evidence that He works independently and directly upon the human heart or mind to bring about conversion.

John 6:63John 14:16-17,2615:26-27John 16:13Romans 8:91 Corinthians 2:6-163:166:1913:8-12Galatians 5:22-26Ephesians 1:13-144:11-13Hebrews 4:12

If man is to be saved from sin, he can only be saved by God’s grace. But God will not save us against our will. Every accountable human being has chosen sin, and God has now invited every accountable human being to choose salvation. Therefore, the fact that salvation is even an option for us is grace. Grace is the basis of our salvation, obedient faith is the means by which we accept salvation, and baptism is the occasion at which we receive salvation. There is only one baptism applicable today, and it involves immersion in water for the forgiveness of sin and entrance to the kingdom.

John 3:16Acts 2:38Ephesians 2:8-104:4-6Colossians 2:122 Thessalonians 1:82 Timothy 2:25Hebrews 5:9James 2:261 Peter 3:212 Peter 3:9

Jesus came to earth to establish His Kingdom, the church, which He accomplished through the work of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles. Jesus established only one church, His body. God automatically adds those who are saved to the church. Jesus came to seek and save the lost, and this is ultimately accomplished by means of the church. Since there is only one church, denominationalism is contrary to God’s Will. Therefore, the church of Christ should never be referred to as “another denomination.” We believe that God has provided for the local church qualified elders to shepherd her members in doctrine and life, and equip every saint for the work of ministry.

Matthew 16:1828:18-20Luke 19:10John 16:1317:20-21Acts 1:82:1-4Acts 2:38; Acts 2:40-47Ephesians 1:22-232:19-224:4-64:11-125:19-23Colossians 1:18241 Timothy 3:1-13Titus 1:5-9Hebrews 10:23-25

We believe that a Christian should live for the glory of God and the well-being of others; that his conduct should be blameless before the world; and that he should be a faithful steward of his possessions. We believe it is the duty of every Christian to pursue a life of maximal holiness, purity, and conformity to the Word of God in thought and deed. We affirm the Biblical view of marriage as a lifelong and exclusive relationship between one man and one woman, and reject any view that condones sexual conduct outside the covenant of Biblical marriage.
